In many homes, an aasan is the small seat or mat on which a deity’s idol or picture rests during daily worship and festivals. A handmade aasan adds colour and craftsmanship to the pooja space. Ours are made from pipe cleaners (chenille stems) by our studio in Jaipur and shipped across India. See the whole range on the Aasan for Deity page.
What sizes of aasan are available?
- Single Layer Aasan 10 inch: base of 6 inch, for small idols and photo frames.
- Single Layer Aasan 12 inch: base of 8 inch, for medium idols.
- Double Layer Aasan 12 inch: an 8 inch base with a 6 inch layer on top, for a raised, layered look.
- Double Layer Aasan 16 inch: a 12 inch base with an 8 inch layer, for larger idols and a bigger statement.
Single layer or double layer?
A single layer aasan is simple and flat, best when space is limited or the idol is small. A double layer aasan gives a stepped, ornate look that suits festival set-ups and larger idols. Measure the base of your idol first: the aasan should be a little wider than the base so the idol sits comfortably.
Which colour combinations can I choose?
Every aasan comes in ten two-colour combinations: Yellow + Green, Yellow + Red, Pink + Blossom Pink, Red + Orange, Sky Blue + Pink, Green + Pink, White + Red, Yellow + White, Sky Blue + Dark Blue and Purple + Dark Blue. The colour dots on the product page show each combination before you choose.
Which colours suit which occasion?
- Yellow, Red and Orange combinations feel warm and festive, popular around Diwali and Navratri.
- White and pastel pink combinations feel calm for daily pooja.
- Blue and purple combinations stand out in a modern home mandir.
