Handmade pipe cleaner (chenille stem) flowers are one of the easiest gifts to look after, because there is nothing to water, trim or replace. A few habits keep them looking new. These tips apply to our bouquets, ceramic vase arrangements and handmade flower pots.
How do I clean pipe cleaner flowers?
- Dust regularly with a soft, dry brush such as a clean make-up or paint brush.
- For stubborn dust, use a hairdryer on its coolest, lowest setting from a distance.
- For a mark, dab with a barely damp cloth and let it dry fully. Do not soak the flower.
Can pipe cleaner flowers get wet?
Avoid it. The core is metal wire, and prolonged damp can cause rust and flatten the fibre. Keep them away from bathrooms and rainy balconies, and do not put them in water.
Will the colours fade?
Like most fabrics, colours can soften with many hours of direct sunlight. Place the flowers where they get bright indirect light rather than a sun-facing window sill.
How should I store them?
Store in a dry box or bag, laid flat or standing upright, with space around the petals so they do not bend. Wrap delicate flowers in soft paper.
How do I reshape a flower?
Because the wire holds its shape, you can gently bend petals and stems back into place with your fingers.
Keep children and pets in mind
Keep small pieces away from toddlers and pets who chew. Wire ends are covered, but the pieces are not toys.
